The adjoining tract which also houses the original smokestack has been partially cleared and has many uses with its proximity to access both public water and sewer. The history of this property is almost as old as Anderson and dates back to 1899 when it was founded as a cotton spinning and weaving plant. In 1946 the mill was acquired by New York-based textile business, the M. Lowenstein Company. In 1986 Orr-Lyons Mill was acquired by Springs Industries. The last owner of the property, purchased it in 2005, and did so to salvaged the old 1800s structure for its heart pine and other materials which are repurposed in hundreds of useful projects. The only remanence of the old building is its smokestack which now serves as a reminder of this landmark textile mill. When the current owner purchased the property a Phase 1 environmental survey was done and copy of this is included in the auction documents.
