About Carnival Glass

Carnival glass is a type of iridescent glassware first produced in the United States in the early 20th century. It is characterized by its bright, multi coloured surface achieved through a process of coating the glass with metallic salts while still hot. The surface is reflective and can appear to change colour depending on the angle of the light.

Originally produced as a low cost alternative to more expensive art glass and was often given away as prizes at carnivals and fairs and quickly gained popularity among collectors.
