The Leonard Matteson Museum is tucked away along the highline 22 miles north of Galata, Montana. The farm was established in 1910 with a big red barn that holds something very special inside. Leonard curated his very own museum in the hay loft. It holds a little bit of everything from the last 100 years. There is a homestead kitchen with wood burning cook stoves, utensils, crocks, coffee urns, and much more that makes you feel as if you are in a cabin from the late 1800s. There is a full blacksmith shop with a forge, anvil, blacksmith tools, giant bellow, and more. Moving through the museum you see history from the surrounding areas as well as the state and the nation. There is everything from a desk from Kevin Hardware, pictures from the Anaconda Company Smelter in Great Falls, to newspaper articles from World War 2. His collection is a true history of homesteading on the northern plains of Montana. There is something for everyone to enjoy from horse tack, signs, railroad memorabilia, firearms and ammunition, military pieces, and so much more. This is a true work of art collected over many years and displayed to give each and every piece its own spotlight.
