The Kalins Center is a non-profit organization that started in 2001. At the Kalins Center they provide a safe and child-friendly environment for abused children to tell their story.They provide services to child victims up to the age of 18 years for: sexual, emotional, and physical abuse as well as child neglect and child witnesses of crimes and their non-offending family members. According to the Darkness 2 Light Child Abuse Prevention and Non-Profit Organization, Experts estimate that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before their 18th birthdays. This means that in any classroom or neighborhood full of children, there are children who are silently bearing the burden of sexual abuse.As to the statistics of our local area, according to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services 2009 Data Book there were 181 cases of abuse reported to Child Protective Services in Houston County and 162 cases reported in Trinity County. CPS is just one of the many partner agencies we work with directly.
