He found his first arrowhead at the young age of 7. His collection is made up of personal finds that were found mostly in Louisa County but some were found in neighboring counties and states in his travels such as Colorado, New Mexico, South Dakota, Western Illinois and Missouri. He also did a little traveling overseas where he acquired some of his pottery. There have been numerous articles written about his collection in various Central States Archaeological Journals and he has several pieces featured in Keokuk Axes by Bruce Filbrandt and in Prehistoric Artifacts of Iowa by Jim Roberson. Harold was also a founding member of the Hawkeye State Archaeological Society of Iowa and he loved displaying his collection at various artifact shows. This amazing collection features over 550 lots to include projectile points, a great selection of axes including several Keokuk axes that are featured in Keokuk Axes by Bruce Filbrandt, largest known pestle to have been found in Iowa, banner stones, celts, other stone tools, pendants, Mississippian & others pottery. Also selling will be display cases, many reference books and journals. For bidder's convenience the auction is being moved indoors to our climate-controlled auction center. This will be a live sit-down style auction with live internet bidding.
