Hide Auction Description

Wainscott Auction Service is pleased to bring you art, furnishings, accessories, collections and household goods from the Estate of Suzanne Z. Miller, who, along with her late husband Tom, were owners of the 1906 Frank Lloyd Wright DeRhodes home in South Bend, Indiana for over 40 years. Both Suzanne and Tomretired as administrators at Indiana University South Bend, Suzanne as the Director of Continuing Education and Tom as the Dean of Fine Arts. The items offered in this sale are pieces from their collections of fine art, pottery, music, sports memorabilia, along with miscellaneous items they collected over the decades. The vast music collection literally covers artists from A to Z, mainly pop and rock from the 1960s - 1980s, but also includes childrens, country, jazz, and classical in vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and DVDs. A music collectors dream come true! Much of the fine art is from well known regional artists. The Japanese woodblocks (lots 161 - 166) were acquired because of the DeRhodes homes Japanese influence (Wrights first visit to Japan was in 1905, the year before the DeRhodes home was built). These woodblock prints were acquired over 30 years ago from the Shogun Gallery in Washington DC, which is still in business and specializes in museum quality Japanese woodblock prints. The pottery collection includes such well known makers as Rookwood and Van Briggle, and even includes a piece of orange Teco. This sale includes many unique items, from a couple that dedicated their lives to the preservation of one of South Bends most iconic properties. We encourage you to view over 1500 pictures and 350 lots of items from this estate. The auction closes Saturday 1/22/22 at 5:00 PM, please consider watching the live bidding at that time to insure you don't miss out on your favorite items. The ONLY scheduled pick up for this auction will be 1/23/22 from 11-3 in New Carlisle, IN.
